Ochre cliffs, open ocean.

Portugal's southern rim: two hundred kilometres of cliffs sculpted by the Atlantic, golden beaches, sea caves and three hundred days of sun a year. Europe's densest cluster of golf courses: and, off-season, a MICE destination with a mild climate and accessible rates.

Section 01 — Positioning

The Algarve is two hundred kilometres of cliffs and three hundred days of sun.

Golden beaches, iconic sea caves and, beyond the resort coast, fishing villages, natural parks, Europe's densest cluster of golf courses and a sea-driven cuisine built on grilled fresh fish. Outside summer it's an ideal MICE destination: mild climate, available hotels, more accessible rates, direct flights via Faro.

Section 02 — Key facts

Sun, golf, the hinterland.

Three readings of the South: the coast and its cliffs, the golf and nautical infrastructure, the preserved interior from Sagres to Monchique.

i.

Sun & coast.

The coast is measured in kilometres and clear-sky days.

  • 300 days of sun a year on average, 200 km of coastline among Europe's finest
  • Praia da Marinha and Cova Redonda, among the most photographed beaches on the coast
  • Benagil sea cave, iconic with its eye in the ceiling, reachable by kayak or paddle
ii.

Golf & the sea.

The sporting infrastructure is the densest in the country.

  • More than 40 golf courses, several PGA-rated, spread along the coast
  • Leading marinas (Vilamoura) for sailing, paddle and water sports
  • Ria Formosa Natural Park: protected lagoon, islets, flamingos
iii.

The hinterland & Sagres.

Beyond the beaches, a preserved interior.

  • Cape St Vincent at Sagres, the southwesternmost point of continental Europe, historic navigators' school
  • Serra de Monchique: green hills and the thermal springs of Caldas de Monchique
  • Moorish heritage in Silves, Loulé and Tavira; Faro and its international airport connected across Europe

Section 06 — FAQ

Questions about the Algarve.

Two recurring questions about the destination since 2024. If yours isn't here, write to us.

01 Is the Algarve suited to seminars outside the summer season?

Yes, and it's actually the best season for MICE. From October to May, the Algarve keeps a mild climate (16 to 24 °C), hotels are less crowded, rates more competitive and golf courses more accessible. The winter light is especially valued for incentives and board off-sites.

02 How many attendees can an Algarve hotel host?

The major resorts (around Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago) host residential events of 100 to 400 people, with plenary rooms, breakouts and on-site accommodation. For more intimate formats, boutique houses and pousadas suit 20 to 80 people.
